This is the other side of the onion.

I already had a picture of this posted, but that didn't do it justice, so I deleted it and reposted a better one :D This is the onion that took me an entire semester in jewelry class to make. it's made out of everything from sheet metal, wire, tubing, and even cast pieces. the metals I used include copper, bronze, nickel, and steel. It stands close to 12" tall and the wire base it's on makes it all springy when touched :) I used different patinas to make it green, brown and black

Wow, just, wow. I love it, this is amazing. The subtle detailing is just awesome. Do you mind if I ask how the heck you get all the individual flowers soldered to the head of the piece without it all falling apart? I've toyed with making small copper wire sculptures in the past, but haven't been able to get the hang of soldering together 3D peices without it all getting too hot and falling apart.

Thanks ^.^
well it was rather tricky, at first I had alot of trouble with it so I tried gluing them on via gorilla glue and others, but that worked like crap. so I decided to go ahead and solder them. I started with the center most stem and I had a tiny torch tip at my disposal. I took the heat off just as the little bit of solder melted, doing so with the other stems allowed me to solder one at a time and not get it so hot that the others melted off.

The more you do it, the more you can do it, regardless of what it is.
Well I've been looking at getting a micro torch anyways, so it looks like I should definitely make the investment! I'll be watching for more work from you, it is quite the inspiration, I'm certainly going to dig my copper out of the back corner of my shop and start creating again.

Ha. I would totally put that in my garden ^__^ Is it weather-proof?
mmmmm... the metals are but I don't think that turquoise patina is... it'd wear off

Darn! You should give it some kinda protective coating!

Peh, for that price I'd take a metalworking course and make my own =P
