Wanderers Jacks by Marcusstratus Wanderers Jacks by Marcusstratus
Here's my latest pair of SteepleJacks. This is pretty much the final design, 2 tones, gathered pant into cuff instead of 1:1 seam, single row of buttons on the fly, vent at the side of the leg for air conditioning, and plenty of loops on the waistband for junk. These are also my favorite pants to wear... so far... so I'm seen wearing them alot.

I'm also sporting my new 12" scissors to replace the ones I dropped off a table and nicked the cutting edge. I made a belt sheath for the scissors, but it doesn't fit them nearly as well as it was intended, so I'll be making another one in the future, when I've got the leather to do so.

The fancy stitching on the front is all done by hand. I marked it out in pencil first and then stitched over the lines with hemp.

So yeah, if you commission a pair from me nowadays, this is what they'd look like... but in different colours and all that.

I'll be posting a deviation that has detail shots later on...

This might be a silly question, but the canvas you use for your clothes, is it painters canvas, or is it a different kind of canvas?

It's canvas I find at fabric stores... I think commonly referred to as duck canvas.

Hi, do you mind if i use these as inspiration for a pair of pants i'm thinking of making to my drow costume? I need to make a new a bit warmer pair since it's -15 C outside atm... I'm thinking about making them in wool (as the green part) and skin ( as the brown part) to be litle more weather resistant xD

Certainly! Are you familiar with ~Lastwear? They have several styles as well which you may find inspirational [link] I'm rather fond of your Drow pieces, thanks for asking!

Man, these turned out great! I really love how comfortable and "real" they look. A lot of custom clothing tends to look stiff and unrealistic, if that makes sense. LOVE the color combo, and that awesome stitching on the front!!

Oh yes, I definitely like differentiating my designs as clothes, not costumes. Things made as costumes are always of a horrible fabric and made poorly, the opposite of what I aim for :D

Hello again :)

I think I am finally ready to create one pants of such a kind for myself now. You told me ... 2 years ago or such ... that you made your own patterns for that. So I guess even if you would like to, there wouldn´t be a way that you can send me those as a pdf or such, correct? But they are inspired by the japanese worker pants, eh? So I can order one of these.

Also, do you know where I get a pattern of the barrock-jackets that you used some time quite cheap? I am a poor performing artist and social worker, so I am quite greatful if you could help me finding a cheap source.

Take care and good bye for now

Yeah, all my patterns I have were drafted by hand and I don't have digital versions. We (Thom B. from LastWear and myself) originally got the idea from Japanese worker pants, as you know, and these are the catalogs that inspired us: [link] Look through them and you'll see some pages with little pictures of pants and shirt diagrams, the funny looking ones that taper at the bottom are the shape we used for the Steeplejacks. If you were to blow that up you'd basically have the pant pattern.

As far as the jacket pattern, I'm not familiar with the term Barrock jacket, so I don't know which ones you mean specifically.

Oh yeah, that's a Mccalls pattern, #4695 renaissance doublet... I don't think you can get it in sewing stores anymore, but I'm sure you can find it online.

Wow!
This is EXACTLY what I'm looking for for my LARP costume :D
I'm wanting to make pants like these myself, tough I think I'll fail... so: how much does a pair cost? If its not too expensive (I'm not really rich...) and when its possible to ship them to the Netherlands, I think I'll commission a pair! :D they're terrific! I can try to make a pair myself, but they will NEVER be as nice as you can get them I bet! These are just PERFECT!!
Plus I still need a lot of practice in sewing, maybe I'd better start with something more simple to practice...

okay, thnx :D
so, one of those pants 'll cost like $150?
Mmm... at this moment I cannot afford that... (lol, I'm not even working... do you know if there's some sort of an age limit to commissioners? Because I'm 16...)... but I will think about it! Because I love those steeplejacks SOO much :meow:
and just another question: how long does it usually take to make a pair? And is it a problem that I live in the Netherlands?
you really make terrific work by the way! ^^ but I think you already knew that, or at least that that's how I think about your creations.

Yeah, a simple pair without the reinforcements would come to 160 or so. There's not really an age limit to commissioners, but there is an age limit to being able to sign up with things like PayPal, so maybe get your dad or a brother to send the money for you at the time. It takes a week or two to manufacture a pair, all depending on what else I've got going on. I can send them to Netherlands, but it'll cost more because it's out of country.

Anyway, when you are ready to commission me, just send me a note and we'll go over the particulars that way

yea, I thought so... but my dad 'll do that, I'm sure :) as long as he doesn't have to pay my pants... but ofc not! Do you know how much extra does it cost to send them? If you don't know exact prices it doesn't matter, but it'd be nice if I knew how much I'd have to save... you live in... America?

Okay, it'd probably take a while, but I assume you keep producing the steeplejacks? Would it be possible to get about the same colours as this one by the way? If its a bit off doesn't matter of course ;P

Yeah, I can do the green and brown again :D I won't be able to find the exact colors, but the general color scheme is what I can do.

I live in the US, so shipping something to the Netherlands will be $25-30, I don't know exactly because I don't have a scale.

Hello I come to ask permission to use your own picture to reproduce these pants for my boyfriend. I prefer give him something from myself, but it will certainly be less successful ... Of course if someone ask me or get one in France I promise to give your name =)

Hope you'll say yess!! very very good job (and sorry for my bad english)

I certainly think you can. Original inspiration came from [link] If you look at the end of every catalog, you'll see a page that has the shapes of every garment, that's how I knew what shape to start making my pant pattern [link]

It could be awesome, theyll cover part of your shoes - and ive found it's hard to find shoes that actually look good with my steeplejacks.

Yeah, exactly. One thing I do with mine is leave the last button unfastened on the cuff so they flare out a bit

It's three hidden buttons, because the fabric of the darker pieces was on top of the other fabric - i just split them and made buttonholes in the beige fabric, and covered those with the darker stuff. theyve been the only pants ive worn in the past week, thanks again cause I love them :)

I made the cuffs like this cause I like to wear boots sometimes, and the boots would go under the steeplejacks, and ill need the cuffs to be a bit wider to get that to fit :) so i can adjust them.

you make awesome stuff :) it really inspires me.

Oh yes, I see. I've designed mine to go inside the boots. if you make another pair, consider flaring out the bottom of the cuff like gaiters are.
