For most of June 2013 I'm going to be traveling and alas, I don't have a suitable traveling case... or at least one that will look the part with the rest of me. So salvaging old parts from a worn out suitcase I'm going to be making this one. I know how I'm going to construct it and what not, but the knit-picky bits like the shapes of the corners or the buckles I'm going to use haven't been settled yet.
As of right now, I've disassembled the old frame, cleaned it and reassembled it. I have the outer chunk of leather rough cut and will dye it and burnish it tomorrow and then give it a final cut to precise dimensions. Then I'm going to stitch the corners and add the reinforcements and once it starts taking shape I'm going to give the case rigidity by using hardboard [link]
and then I'll add the corners and feet, drilling through the leather and hardboard. Then on goes the leather bound frame, handles, locks and fasteners, etc. Then to finish I've got this wonderful lining to put inside and also a partition.
