MercerHitsuji Commission by Marcusstratus MercerHitsuji Commission by Marcusstratus
Here's a piece commissioned by ~MercerHitsuji for her Harlequin (Assassins Creed Brotherhood [link] ) cosplay. Originally I was considering using leather and tooling the intricate layer underneath, but decided to use a brocade fabric. Construction went pretty smoothly, but what took most of the time was dying and getting the colors to match up right.

Harlequin's belt in the game has the narrow leather belt over a wider intricate belt, but the wider belt doesn't have any opening. So to make it functional, I just have the wider belt overlap itself and the opening can be worn in the front or back depending on preference.

Having made this makes me want to make more of these fabric underbelts and wear them under my utility belt or whatever. I think it looks great!

this is beaufiful! What did you use to harden the fabric of the underbelt? It looks very sturdy.

The underbelt is just two layers of fabric bound around the edges. The outer fabric is a thick jacquard and the inner is a canvas, so they're both pretty sturdy.

This is very beautiful and detailed. My friend and I are in the process of planning a Harlequin and Hellequin cosplay, how much would it be to acquire one of these beautiful belts?

Thanks! I'm currently not accepting any new commission for a while since I have alot of projects that need to be finished. It wouldn't be too difficult for you to make one yourself. Just sew a couple layers of fabric together (canvas and upholstery brocade is what I used) for the under belt and then just a strip of leather and some buckles would get you by with the leather belt.

Did you put anything in between the layers of fabric to make it stiffer?

Nope, didn't really need to. It's a thick upholstery brocade and then I backed and bound it with a coarse canvas. So after pressing it and all it holds it's shape nicely.

Wow, then you work really fast! :o I wish I would dare touch our sewing machine at home! I'm afraid I will run the needle over my finger! x'D The only thing I've done is resew a winter coat with my mom. I wish I could just find something I like and just sew it myself like you do! Would have been awesome! :D

Well, I started with commercial costume patterns, you know, like those historical renaissance ones. From my experience they're pretty straight forward and simple to follow... but of course, the patterns for non costumes are even better because they expect more people to use those ones.

Ah, yes, true true ^^
Maybe if I start by doing it veeery simple at first, then I will be able to accomplish something for myself that'll please my eyes. I'm such a perfectionist..! x'D
