:EDIT: Thanks to you all for the comments and views! I'm fortunate to have another DD! Thanks to *VioletRosePetals ^FrockTarts for making it happen! :ahoy:
:END EDIT:

A commission for a good friend of mine *Shadow-Wulfe13. This I think I actually started back in may of 2011 and didn't finish until October... or was it November.

Anywho, he had some specific features he wanted on the bag such as pockets and colors, etc. but he mostly wanted to be sure that it would last for years of use and become an heirloom piece he can pass onto his children. It's a good sized briefcase that he can carry over his shoulder or attach two straps to carry like a backpack.

So this is essentially the best piece of leatherwork I've done thus far... and definitely sets a new bar on what I will do in the future. There are also many new details and techniques that I did on this piece to make it stand up to the required criteria.

Some of these features are:
:bulletgreen:The bag is made with vegetable tanned leather instead of chrome tanned (but the lining is chrome tanned pig suede, since veg tanned is stiffer)
:bulletgreen:Since it's vegetable tanned leather, many of the parts have been molded to shape (handle, side gussets, collapsible pockets, etc.)
:bulletgreen:Every piece of hardware is solid brass
:bulletgreen:The thread is 100% Linen, dyed and waxed before hand sewing
:bulletgreen:New construction techniques, like the middle partition, the style of pockets on the front, using feet on the bottom, etc.
:bulletgreen:Reinforcing raw hide leather was used wherever hardware was fastened to leather to keep the leather from ever wearing out
:bulletgreen:The shoulder straps and pocket straps have been lined and stitched together, instead of one unfinished chunk of leather
:bulletgreen:I even got a makers mark to identify who made it and where
ETC.

15 1/2" w X 13" t X 6" d (excluding height of handle and width of side pockets)
Vegetable tanned cow leather, lined with chromium tanned pig suede. Solid brass hardware, aluminum handle support, 100% Linen thread. Dyed with eco-flo dyes and finished with conditioner creme.

How much would something like this cost to order? I truly do love this work, and I could use a briefcase such as this. I won't be having kids anytime soon.....but I've got quite a few nieces and nephews on the way!

Love your designs! If anyone was wondering how long it takes to hand stitch leather here's my process for the perfect stitch in veg tanned leather. 1. Cut piece to shape. 2. Groove where the stitch will lay into to protect from fraying. 3.Case groove (get it wet with a sponge). 4. Run overstitch wheel in groove to mark for the awl, Press firmly. 5. Glue pieces together, let dry overnight. 6. Awl holes, diamond awls work best. I do 6 at a time so I can stitch the waxed thread before they close back up. 7. Run the overstitch wheel over the thread again to give a professional appearance. 8. Edge bevel Carefully! 9. Burnish edge for a finished look. You can use gum, but I just case the edge then burnish till shiny so it will take a dye. 10. Dye and Seal to desired color......Easy!
