Here's my Chain Maille Hauberk (coat) and Coif (Hood). I spent over 65 hours on the Hauberk and around 20- 30 hours on the Coif, haven't taken the time to tally it up yet. I made them in '05 after I got enough money from selling a copper chain maille vest and coif hat thingy. I have also yet to test the strength of the pieces by shooting them and whacking them, though I do know that air soft pellets just shatter when they hit the Hauberk. ;)

Nice. I'm working on a coif myself as a summer project; winding springs from 16 gauge galvanized steel wire, cutting the rings and weaving. I may try to do a hauberk over this next school year in my spare time.

Oh yeah, that's a lot of work. Making chainmaile is quite laborous, but making the rings too is something! I made a coif and vest out of 12g copper wire once, but then when I upgraded to stainless (the ones you see here) I bought my rings premade from the RingLord

:wow: so incredibly cool! It looks like you did a very nice job! what a lot of work!! I'm dying to get, or eventually learn how to make, myself a chain maille shirt, I love how it's so heavy yet flexible, feels so nice!

it's a fun picture too =D

Aye, chain maille is an excellent medium to learn patience through. I made a copper vest that took many months to make before this one. Had to strip the plastic off of the copper wire, straighten it out, wind it into a coil, cut the individual rings from the coil and then proceed to weave the maille. That's what took me such a long time to get it done. With this stainless steel one I just assembled the rings together because I bought them preformed. It cost me $150.oo for all that rings, but I finished the hauberk in 20 days or so.

god I'd love to get another picture of it, but it's currently at me old house.

wow, I'm impressed that you've actually made rings too. that's why I never thought of trying my hand at it untill recently when I found out you can actually buy the rings.
I hope you do get another picture! :aww:

the padding worn under a chain hauberk is properly called a gambeson. they can do double duty as a pretty good winter coat. imagine what this means for operations in august....
