Cargo Vest

Description

In 2010 I was getting a lot of interest in this old design of mine: [link]

So I decided to redo it into my current style and I did this design: [link]

Then I did some mock-ups [link] and what you see now is the final result! Made to last, the outside and pockets are made of a durable 100% cotton denim and it's lined with 100% cotton flannel. The hardware is brass and contrasting with the denim are leather belt keepers.

In total there are 24 pockets, ranging from 2 1/2" x 4" (6.35x10cm) for the smallest and 9" x 8" (22.8x20.3cm) for the largest. They can hold everything from pencils, rullers, books, notepads, electronics, knives and tools to groceries, newspapers, phones, wallets, tissues, ferrets, etc. etc. etc. There are also numerous Dee rings around the vest for fastening chains, pouches and anything else to your person, all riveted on with a sturdy leather strap. The chunky center zipper came off a military surplus coat and has a long brass pull. The zipper stops at the waist and the vest is split in front and back to accommodate movement and sitting.

I'm 5'8" (172.75cm) tall and have a chest circumference of 35" (89cm), so anyone with similar measurements will fit the vest just like in the photo's. It will fit up to a 37" (94cm) chest comfortably and a taller or shorter height won't make a difference. The vest is 42" (106.5cm)long from shoulder to hem and the hood is actually full enough to keep the rain off your face.

This vest was also very tedious to make and thus I wont be making one like it again. So don't ask me! heh So many pockets :faint: I'll have to have ~Lastwear manufacture it or something for the future.

I see this is an old post, but I just found it. I’ve been making my own hiking and camping gear for several years now, clothing out of wool and bags out of various nylons and rip stop materials. Part of my quest has been to make my perfect EDC bag after spending years trying out different commercial options. One of my favorite “bags” I purchased was actually a tactical vest with tons of pockets. I wore it year round, with layers on top or underneath when it got cold. My one gripe about it was that the pockets “weren’t right”. Items clumped together and made the thing bulky and it hindered my movement (I’m an active guy). I’ve been thinking about trying my hand at making a vest with a better pocket layout and my own personal style. I’ve also thought about a long vest (the wool coats I’ve made are on the long side), but haven’t attempted it.

ANYWAY, that was a lot of exposition to say I love this creation of yours, it looks awesome, and you’ve proven the concept of a long vest covered in pockets to me, so I think I may try my hand at my own idea finally. Great work.
