Burning Man 2013 Commission by Marcusstratus Burning Man 2013 Commission by Marcusstratus
Made at the request of ~stunam1, I just got this finished and mailed off in time for Burning Man 2013 He's a member of the Abraxas Dragon crew and was looking for a samuraiesque ensemble to wear for this year. Using the same vest design I did for my Industrial Ensemble, I also made matching hakama and bracers. The vest and bracers have 1" webbing sewn across them to give them an armour aesthetic. One of the things on this outfit I'm most pleased about are the clasps on the front of the vest. They're claws that fasten around a metal button.

The bracers are a redesign of my Hourglass bracers which essentially replace my DemiGauntlets design

The hakama are made with the standard ~Lastwear pattern. It's been a long time since I made these and had to re-remember a large portion of the tricks that go into making 'em. As such, there were a couple times I realized I had done something wrong only after finishing this or that and so I had to unstitch and redo.

Linings and webbing are made of 100% cotton fabric while the burgandy fabric is a 65/35 cotton/poly blend. All hardware where possible is solid brass.

When I get a picture from the commissioner I'll post it on here so folks can see it in action.

I have commented before on another piece, so I hope I am not repeating myself. I was trying to put a fine point on why I really like your work. Here are some of my observations and opinions. Your pieces do not look too "costumey", they look functional and perfectly usable in another reality (or this one). They look durable, and by the materials you use I would dare to say they are EXTREMELY durable. You have a very clear vision and consistency to your design style. All of your pieces are "finished", not just in material, but in style. Your details are just right, not too much, just enough to have exciting little details. Didn't mean to gush too much, just think you are a terrific talent. Well done.

Cheers mate! I do try to achieve a balanced composition in everything I create. I also value quality and longevity in an item.
This looks amazing! The proportions and shape are so well done that when i saw the thumb i though this was concept art for a character.
